Gastroenterology

Overview

We diagnose and treat common pediatric gastrointestinal disorders such as: gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), colic, feeding difficulties, peptic ulcer disease, constipation, chronic abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), food allergies, celiac disease, chronic diarrhea, blood in the stool, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn disease, ulcerative colitis and intestinal polyps.

We diagnose and treat pediatric liver disorders such as: jaundice, infectious hepatitis (hepatitis A, B, and C), fatty liver, metabolic liver disease (such as Wilson's, alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency), portal hypertension and autoimmune hepatitis.

The nutritional disorders we diagnose and treat include failure to thrive (poor weight gain), lactose intolerance, feeding disabilities leading to the need for tube feedings, and pancreatic insufficiency.

Among the procedures that are available to patients with gastrointestinal disorders are upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy (pillcam®), breath testing for sugar intolerance (lactose, fructose, sucrose), removal of polyps (polypectomy), opening of intestinal narrowings (stricture dilation), gastric tube placement (PEG), control of intestinal bleeding (cauterizing, variceal banding), pH probe monitoring (traditional and wireless), fecal disimpaction, infliximab (Remicade®) infusion and liver biopsy.
